DEEPA KAZHCHA AT POOMKAVU CHURCH-2012

DEEPA KAZHCHA
AT POOMKAVU CHURCH-2012

Hundreds of people participated in the ritual of ‘deepa kazhcha,' an array of lighted traditional lamps held at the famous Our Lady of Assumption Church at Poomkavu near here on Maundy Thursday night signalling a glorious chapter in the secular tradition of the area. Large number of people have been pouring in from April 1, when the observation of Holy Week started at the Poomkavu church here. On Thursday, prayers in connection with the Last Supper followed by the washing of the feet ritual marked the day at the Poomkavu Church. The highlight of the day was ‘deepa kazhcha' also known as ‘sneha deepakazhcha' in which the first lamp was lit by Curia Bishop Bosco Puthur of Ernakulam Angamalay Archdiocese of the Syro Malabar Catholic Church. A procession carrying the idol of Passion of Our Lord will be taken out at 5 p.m. on Friday.
