                                                              ITS AWARD FOR PHOTOGRAPHY AND CARTOON

The Kerala Lalitha Kala Akademi announced its awards for photography and cartoon on Thursday,22nd,March,2012..While K.B. Gireesh was selected for this year's akademi award for photography for his photo titled, ‘Trap Door', cartoonists T.K. Sujith and Sajithkumar were declared joint winners of the cartoon award for their works, ‘Akatharu Puratharu' and “2020AD 2050AD'.Announcing the awards at a news conference here, akademi chairman K.A. Francis and secretary Sreemoolanagaram Mohan said that the awards would be given away by Culture Minister K.C. Joseph at a function at Durbar Hall here on Monday. A seven-day exhibition of 138 photographs and cartoons would be inaugurated along with this.Veteran painters and sculptors of the State aged 70 and above would also be honoured at the function. While the akademi had prepared a list of veteran artists to be honoured at the function, deserving artists who have not got the invite should get in touch with the akademi on 0487-2333773, they said. 

Mr. Gireesh, who won the photography award, would receive a cheque for Rs 15,000 and a citation. Baiju Manoharan, who secured the ‘honourable mention' for his untitled photograph, would take home Rs 5,000 and a citation.Meanwhile, cartoonists Shaji Mathew and Thomas A. Kodankandam shared the ‘honourable mention' for their cartoons ‘Mobile Revolution' and “Indian Rupee Gets a Symbol'.
