KOTTARAKARA ORTHODOX CONVENTION

 This year’s (2012) Kottarakra Convention of Malankara Orthodox Syrian Church will be held at the Malankara Orthodox Christian Centre grounds at Kottarkara from January 22 to 29. The Convention will be inaugurated by Kandanad west diocesan Metropolitan Mathews Mar Sevarious at a function to be presided by Kottarakara-Punalu diocesan Metropolitan Yuhanon Mar Theodros.

 The Kottarkara Convention of the Orthodox Church has a tradition of more than 100 years. While the convention was being organized by the Kollam and Thiruvananthapuram dioceses earlier, this time its is being organized by the newly formed Kottarkara-Punalur diocese. One of the highlights of eight day convention is a southern regional clergy conference scheduled on January 24. The southern region of the Orthodox church comprise the diocese of Kollam,Thiruvananthapuram,Kottarakara-Punalur and Adoor-Kadampanadu, Mar Theodorus will preside over the conference. Adoor-Kadampanadu diocesan metropolitan Zacharias Mar Gregorios will address the conference. Classes will be conducted by Fr Abraham Thomas from the Orthodox seminary in Kottayam. A conference of the Martha Mariam Vanitha Samajam will be held on January 25. A Balajana Convention will be held on January 28.

 The Pilgrimage to the tomp of the late Catholicos of the East Baselious Marthoma Mathews II at the Sasthamcotta Mount Horeb Elia Chapel will begin from Kottarkara Chengamandu Bethlehem Ashramam 2 pm on January 25. The valedictory function will be at 11.15 January 29.
