KOCHI METRO RAIL

KOCHI METRO RAIL

Former Delhi Metro Rail Corporation MD (DMRC) MD E. Sreedharan has said that he will cooperate with the project if the DMRC is given the charge of the project. The technical issues raised against the DMRC are baseless, he said. Kochi metro will get all the technical help, he said. Sreedharan, who was speaking here Tuesday after discussing the issue with Chief Minister Oommen Chandy, said he had given assurance to Chandy on providing technical help. Sreedharan said that he hoped DMRC will be in the project. He also said that the final decision is to be taken by the chief minister.

The final decision on his involvement with the proposed Kochi Metro project will be taken Thursday, former DMRC chief E. Sreedharan. If the project is taken up by the DMRC there will not be any difficulty in getting loan from Japan bank and there is no need to invite a global tender. If the project is implemented directly by Kochi Metro Corporation the Japanese aid will be sanctioned only after conducting a series of studies. The decision to cooperate with the project will be taken after his meeting with Chief Minister Oommen Chandy Thursday.

Sreedharan asked the media not to create a controversy on the project. He said that it is better to hand over the project fully to the DMRC which has the technical expertise to execute the project. It can implement the Kochi metro as early as possible as it can start the work within a months which will be financially better. Otherwise the project will be delayed by one and a half years, he said.He reiterated his earlier stand that he will cooperate with the project only if it is entrusted to the DMRC.
