MULLAPERIYAR- KERALA POLICE STOPED THE ATTEMPTS BY TAMIL NADU TO CARRY OUT PATCH WORKS AT THE DAM

MULLAPERIYAR- KERALA POLICE STOPED THE ATTEMPTS BY TAMIL NADU TO CARRY OUT PATCH WORKS AT THE DAM
Kerala Police, who have the charge of the security of the Mullaperiyar dam, Wednesday28th December,2011, foiled attempts by Tamil Nadu to carry out patchworks at the dam as directed by C.D. Thatte, a technical member on the Supreme Court-appointed empowered committee of experts. The attempt of Tamil Nadu was to complete the work before the sub-committee submits its report to the high power committee. Tamil Nadu made the move even though the Supreme Court had ordered to maintain the status quo of the dam structure.

Thatte, who had taken a rebellious stand against Kerala, had allegedly asked the Tamil Nadu officials to carry out the patch work at the baby dam and to chop down the nearby trees at the tiger reserve. He had also gave directions to carry out maintenance work of the road from Vallakadavu to the dam site and to remove the logs from the Thekkady lake.
