MK Leelakumari Amma has been selected for the Mukundan C Menon award instituted by the national Confederation of Human Rights Organizations in the name of journalist and human rights activist Mukundan C Menon. The award carries Rs 10,000 cash prize and plaque. Leelakumari Amma, who first brought to public attention the health hazards caused by the use of endosulfan through a petition in a munsiff court in Kasaragod.
Leelakumari Amma was a senior agriculture assistant when she began her legal battle against the use of endosulfan much before mass agitations were launched demanding a ban on the pesticide
