INTERNATIONAL FILM FESTIVAL BEGAN IN KERALA-9-12-2011

The 16th edition of the International Film Festival of Kerala, featuring around 200 films from 65 countries, kickstarted  amidst much fun and colour. Chief Minister Oommen Chandy, who inaugurated the event in the presence of Bollywood actor Jaya Bachchan, said the future of cinema are in the hands of all film organisations. The competition section in the eight-day festival will include 11 films from Asia, Latin America and Africa. Three films, including two Malayalam films - 'Aadimadhyantham' by debutant director Sherrey and 'Aadaminte Makan Abu' by Salim Ahamed - were removed on technical grounds.

While `Aadimadhyantham' was rejected because it was presented before the jury in an incomplete format and Malayalam movie 'Aadaminte Makan Abu' was omitted on the ground that they had competed in the IFFI recently held at Goa. 'Under the Hawthorne tree' directed by renowned film-maker from China Zhang Yimou was screened as the inaugural film. Chandy said the IFFK had of late been creating a festival season in Thiruvanathapuram. Jaya, who was the chief guest at the ceremony, said good cinema and good projection were the essential part of any festival. Bollywood actor Ompuri, who was also present, said Malayalees' enthusiasm for cinema and literature is unparallel.
