HIV IN KERALA

AIDS Control Society stated that there are 17,362 persons affected with HIV in the state. They are confirmed as HIV affected after examinations at various hospitals. Among them 58.7% are men, 39 % women and 2.3% children and this is as per statistics till October 31.From 2004 onwards, HIV examination is held in all state government medical colleges and district hospitals. Though the numbers were more in the initial periods, there has been a decline of late. At the same time, there is an increase in the number of persons who are willing to do HIV test. When in 2005, there were 30,596 who have done the test, in 2011 it rose to 3,19,723.Till date 2,133 persons died due to HIV.But as per the statistics of National Aids Control Organization there are 40,060 affected with HIV in Kerala as per the account in 2010. In India there are a total of 24 lakh affected people.
