GOVINDACHAMI GETS DEATH SENTENCE IN SOUMYA MURDER CASE

The Thrissur Fast Track court sentenced Govindachami to death in the sensational murder case of Soumya, who was pushed out of a moving train, raped and killed in February this year. Judge Raveendra Babu found the accused Govindachamy (30) hailing from Tamil Nadu, guilty of the rape and murder. Special prosecutor A Suresan had pleaded for the maximum punishment of death. The court observed that the women in the society will be under threat if the accused is not given death sentence.
According to the prosecution, Govindachamy hailing from Virudhachalam in Tamil Nadu had assaulted 23-year-old Soumya in a deserted ladies' compartment on February 1 this year(2011) and pushed her out of the running train, immediately after it left the Vallathol Nagar station. He then carried her to a spot along the rail tracks and raped her 'cruelly and brutally'.The accused had also injured her seriously resulting in her death on February 6.Pressing for maximum punishment, the prosecution submitted that the accused was a 'habitual offender' and produced documentary evidence from the Tamil Nadu Crime Bureau of Police that he had been convicted in eight cases in Tamil Nadu from 2004 to 2008.

A Fast Track court Friday(11-11-2011) awarded death sentence to Govindachamy who was convicted in the rape and murder of Soumya.The sentence was read out by Fast Track court judge K. Raveendrababu. Soumya was raped and killed after being pushed out of ladies compartment of Kochi-Shornur passenger train in February this year.Statements by people who saw Govindachamy in the vicinity, DNA evidence found from the nails of Soumya also helped in nailing Govidachamy.Special Prosecutor A Suresan had pleaded for the maximum punishment of death stating that Govindachamy was a habitual offender. The prosecution produced documentary evidence from the Tamil Nadu Crime Bureau of Police to show that Govindachanmy that he had been convicted in eight cases in Tamil Nadu from 2004 to 2008.

There must not be anything like Rarest of rarest to be hanged. Any crime which causes to death must be count as rare and should be sentenced to death. Its the only way to finish crime.
We need more fast track courts for early sentence the offenders and these offenders should be punished and not let off or forgiven of their crimes against reoccurring
