EZHUTHACHAN PURASKARAM FOR M.T VASUDEVAN NAIR-2011


Eminent writer M T Vasudevan Nair has been selected for this year's(2011) Ezhuthachan Puraskaram, the highest literary award instituted by the State government. The award carries Rs 1 lakh, citation and a statuette. Culture Minister K C Joseph announced the award in Kozhikode on Tuesday(7th  November,2011).Madathil Thekkepaattu Vasudevan Nair, popularly called MT, is also a screenplay writer and director. He is considered to be one of the most versatile writer in modern Malayalam literature. He was honoured with the Janpith award in 1995 for his work Randamoozham. His debut novel Nalukettu won him the Kerala Sahitya Akademi Award in 1959. He has also published some twenty volumes of short stories, travelogues, literary essays and children's books.

His famous novels include Manju (Mist), Kaalam (Time), Nalukettu (Ancestral house), Asuravithu (Demon's seed), Vilapayathra (The funeral procession), Pathiravum Pakalvelichavum (Midnight and daylight), Arabipponnu (The Arabian Gold, written with N. P. Mohammed), etc.
He has written the screen play for at least 54 movies and directed 7 movies. He has won the National Film Award for Best Screenplay four times for: Oru Vadakkan Veeragatha (1989), Kadavu (1991), Sadayam (1992), and Parinayam (1994), which is the most by any in screen play category.
