Former state minister and six-time MLA M.P. Ganghadharan (77) passed away at a private hospital here Monday, 31st October, 2011. He was undergoing treatment for stomach-related ailment.He was the water resources minister in the K. Karunakaran ministry. He was also the KPCC general secretary. He later quit the Congress along with K. Karunakaran and joined DIC and later worked for the NCP too.He later returned to the Congress fold
Hailing from Valiyoor, Kozhikode, he was an advocate and acted as Congress general secretary. Gangadharan was an irrigation minister during K Karunakaran's government and a six-time MLA.
In 2005 he resigned from the Congress to join Karunakaran's party. In 2006, Karunakaran decided to merge the DIC-K with Nationalist Congress Party. When Karunakaran decided to rejoin the Congress party in Dec 2007, Gangadharan stayed with the NCP. In 2011 March, he returned back to the Congress
