                         POET SATCHIDANANDAN TRIPPED FOR NOBEL PRIZE




Twentyseven years after Kamala Das aka Madhavikkutty was nominated and shortlisted for Nobel prize in Literature Malayalam's leading poet K. Satchidanandan has been named as a contender for the top prize.

Online betting site has tipped Syrian poet Adonis as the top contender and Satchidanandan's name appears 18th in the list with an odd of 1 against 33. Indian poet Rajendra Bhandari who writes in Nepali has also been named as one of the contenders along with Rajasthani writer Vijaydan Detha Mahaswetha Devi. One of the pioneers of modern poetry in Malayalam Satchidanandan. also an academician, editor and translator has to his credit 22 collections of poetry besides many anthologies. He has also been translated into several languages
