MAHATMA GANDHI UNIVERSITY ALLOWED WRITING OF PG EXAMINATIONS IN MALAYALAM

Mahatma Gandhi University has provided the necessary sanction that permits students to answer the postgraduate examinations in Malayalam language. Decision to be in effect from next academic year The landmark decision was taken on Saturday, 15th October, 2011, during a meeting of the University's Academic Council. The sanction will not applicable to other language papers. The proposal had come up for discussion in the Council following constant efforts made by P.G. Abraham Thomas, president, PG Teachers' Council.

Introducing the topic for discussion, Vice-Chancellor Rajan Gurukkal pointed out that students were now being allowed to write answers in Malayalam even for Civil Services Examinations. “Nations, which preserve native culture and traditions, permit the people to dream, think, write and speak in their own language. These nations have contributed immensely to the generation of new knowledge.” Prof. Gurukkal hoped that the move would provide an impetus to generate seminal writings in various branches of studies. The latest development has also paved the way for submission of research dissertations in Malayalam. The decision will come into effect from the next academic year. Currently, the students of various graduate courses are being permitted to answer in Malayalam.
