INDIA’S FIRST AC DOUBLE-DECKER TRAIN
The first double decker AC train between Howrah and Dhanbad was flagged off on Monday .3rd October,2011. Railways Minister Dinesh Trivedi, along with the Union minister of state for Shipping, flagged off the train at Howrah station The railways also introduced many new trains - Howrah -Darbhanga (weekly), Asansol-Gorakhpur (weekly), Bankura- Shalimar Rajyarani Express (triweekly and many new EMU and MEMU local trains.The frequency of Howrah-Mumbai Duronto Express was also increased to four days instead of two days in a week.The Railway Minister also launched two AC metro rakes for metro rail.Many passengers were agitated during the function at the Howrah station alleging that the Railway Minister's function at the evening peak hour was causing inconvenience to them and responsible for trains arriving late. Trivedi came down twice from the podium after the hue and cry made by the agitated passengers during the programme. However, after listening to a few agitators the event continued. Trivedi alleged passengers' agitation during the function was the 'handiwork of the opposition party.''Some people do not like to see some good steps and work,' the Railway Minister said.
