The central government has assured chief minister Oomen Chandy that they will give green signal to many developmental projects including setting up of Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) for the state. The consensus was made in the meeting of chief minister Oommen Chandy with union ministers. In a press meet after the meet, the CM said Kerala would get IIT next year. The promise is to give permission for an IIT as part of 12 th five-year plan. CM said the talks were fruitful with central ministers.
     Education minister PK Abdu Rab said the proposed IIT would be set up in the place of Palakkad Instrumentation Ltd. After talks with E Ahamed, Abdu Rab said 300 to 600 acres of land should be taken over. Union home minister gave assurance that security permission for implementation of Vizhinjam project would be given soon. As the same requires the permission from other ministries too, the decision would be informed later.
Union environmental minister Jayanthi Natarajan gave assurance that the project to shift the tribes residing in the dense forest in Wayanad would be implemented soon. At present there are 800 tribes residing in the forest and Kerala asked for Rs 80 crore aid. The project is to provide Rs 10 lakh for each adult tribe for rehabilitation. Minister Jayanthi Natarajan also gave assurance in callling a meeting of representatives from Kerala, Tamil Nadu and Karnataka to discuss the night traffic ban on the Mysore Wayanad route, though the issue is under the consideration of the court.
