TRIBUTE PAID TO BISHOP PETER THURUTHIKONAM

Bishop Dr. Peter Thuruthikonam passed away on 5^th September, 2011. He was the former Bishop of the Vijayapuram diocese. He was the former Bishop of the Vijayapuram during 1988 to 2006 The funeral was held at Vimalapuram Catheedral on 6^th September,2011..Varappuzha Archbishop Francis Kallarackal will officiate at the funeral ceremony. Thiruvananthapuram Arch Bishop Soosai Pakiam will deliver the main discourse.The mortal remains of the former bishop were brought last afternoon. The body was kept at Vijayapuram Bishop House for public homage and later taken in a procession to Vimalagiri Cathedral.Peter Thuruthikonam was born on August 1, 1929 at Thiruvalla.He was ordained as priest on March 12, 1959. Pope John Paul II appointed him as Bishop of Vijayapuram on May 5, 1988. His His Episcopal ordination was on August 4, 1988. He retired on May 8, 2006. Thuruthikonam was the fourth bishop and the second Indian Bishop of Vijayapuram diocese
