26KILLED IN LIGHTNING STRIKES

At least 26 persons have been killed in lightning strikes across Bihar with Aurangabad district alone accounting for 19 casualties, Principal Secretary (Disaster Management) Vyasji said today(31st July,2011). The casualties took place yesterday(30th July,2011) with three others killed in Bhojpur, two in Katihar and one each in Rohtas and Arwal districts, he said. Chief Minister Nitish Kumar announced a compensation of Rs 1.50 lakh each to the families of the 26 victims. Kumar directed the Principal Secretary to pay the kin of each victim rupees one lakh from the disaster management fund and Rs 50,000 from the Chief Minister's Relief Fund. Vyasji said that the district officials were asked to complete the formalities, including identification of the bodies for payment of compensation.
