MEDICAL ENTRANCE EXAMINATION BY PRIVATE MANAGEMENT ILLEGAL
KERALA HIGH COURT
Medical entrance exam conducted by the Self-Financing Medical Management Association on this July 14 was not transparent, Kerala High court Wednesday declared it as 'illegal' and slammed the state government for justifying the test conducted by the consortium. Justice Antony Dominic directed the state government to "take over" the seats and conduct admission on the basis of Common Entrance rank list as per merit in all the seats. The court said the examination conducted by the association was not transparent.
"The 'shameless' attitude of the state government needs to be condemned for more than one reason," the judge said. The order was issued on a petition by Ameena Nahana of Kozhikode challenging the entrance examination conducted by the Association. Instead of seizing the opportunity to take over the admission process, government has taken a 'shameless' stand in contending that the process was proper, the judge said. The court imposed rs five lakh as cost to the consortium for conducting the entrance test for three years. The court also directed the association to pay rs 25,000 as cost to the petitioner.
