FASTING SHOULD NOT USED AS A PUBLICITY STUNT--PROF. JOHN KURAKAR

FASTING SHOULD NOT USED AS A PUBLICITY STUNT

Anna Hazare is a honest social activist. Thanks to Anna Team. The honest people will no longer accept corruption as part of life. They will feel motivated enough to fight against the evil. Corruption is not exclusive to India. It is even in china, Russia and other developed and developing countries. We are thankful to Anna Hazare for their relentless campaign and crusade against corruption. One cannot expect them to create a corruption is like diabetes, which can be controlled but not completely cured.
Anna Hazare, who burnt the copies of the Lokpal bill introduced in Parliament. This action actually hurt  the people. We respect Anna Hazare, but burning copies of the bill is  an inappropriate way of protesting. Paper is the symbol of knowledge and wisdom. Millions of trees are cut every year to meet the requirements of paper consumption. Anna Hazare team should have thought of an alternative mode of protest.
Parliament is  the Supreme power for making legislation and bill. Anna Hazare should continue to hold talks with all sections and political leaders of all political parties to bring amendments to the bill through political and social pressure. The Bill must include the office of the Prime Minister, the higher judiciary and MPs and all other leaders.
We congratulate Mr Hazare and his team for their fearless and bold efforts to shape the Lokpal bill. But Mr Hazare's threat to go on an indefinite fast from August 16 is not a Gandhian way of protest. Fasting is the last weapon of protest.
                                                                                             Prof. John Kurakar
