SCHOOLS TO GET SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY MUSEUM
The museums are being set up at the Government UP School, Azhekodu, Thrissur, SCUVHSS,Pattanakkad,Alappuzha, Government Higher secondary School,Valiyazheekal, Alappuzha, and Government High School, Azheekal,Kollam. The Tsunami Museum at Alappad in Kollam is also being up-graded under the project. " Science is always exciting but for many people,it is in comprehensible and some times even frightening. They perceive science and technology as an esoteric world hostile to humanity. There is a growing need for an environment in which people can become familiar with the concepts of science and technology and begin gain one understanding by controlling and watching the behavior of Laboratory apparatus and machinery, such a place can arouse their latent curiosity and provide at least partial answers. This is the basic aim of science museum"
The project is being supported by the Disaster Management Department, Government of Kerala, with financial assistance from the Prime Ministers National Relief Fund (PMNRF) support for social infrastructure. The estimated cost of setting up the five museums is Rs 125 lakh (Rs 25 lakh for each)
The Disaster Management Department has sanctioned an amount of Rs 90.35 lakh for the project. The Kerala State Science and Technology Museum is the implementing agency for the project. Apart from exhibits on scientific concepts and equipment, they will also feature an automobile gallery and stalls on earth science and natural disasters. While ISRO is supplying the museum with models of rockets and satellites.
