ROAD DEVELOPMENT
(Rs 1000 cr for road development; Rs 10 cr for Smart city)
The Finance Minister has allocated a substantial sum for road development and basic employment facilities in his 9th budget which was presented in the state assembly on Friday,8th July,2011,. He has alloted Rs 1000 crore for road development and Rs 10 crore for basic development facilities for Smart city project.As many as 5000 new job opportunities in Khadi sector and setting up a new dam at Mullaperiyar are the other highlights. Rs 5 crore has been alloted for this in the first phase. A state road empowerment package would be implemented. Development of road and bridges has been alloted Rs 200 crore, Rs 180 crore for Vizhinjam project was also announced.
The minister alloted Rs 5 crore for Kottyam Tourism Highway, Rs 5 crore for Zero waste Sabarimala project, Rs 2 crore for Erumeli township, revenue tower at Harippad, Kattapanna, Kodungaloor, Rs 25 lakh for setting up a vegetable market of international standard at Poovachal, Rs 2 cr for Sivagiri Pappanasam tourism development, Rs 10 crore for constructing ring roads at Pala, Manjeri, Mambaram, Rs 50 lakh for Aruvikara convention centre, Rs 25 crore for Kochi Metro project, Rs 30 lakh for Kannur airport, Rs 5 lakh in the first phase for hillway development project.Vallavanad Development Authority, Cherthala-Mannathi NH Road, Rs 1 crore for Panakkad Education and Health Hub, Rs 30 crore for state capital development was also sanctioned by the Revenue minister.
