                              PUNE-THE EIGHTH LARGEST CITY IN INDIA

     Pune is the eighth largest city in India. This is the second most important city in Maharashtra. The city has grown in terms of size,population and habitation in the past two decades. In fact, it is one of the fastest growing metros in the country today.
  Located at 1,840 feet above sea level,the city is bordered on the western side by the Deccan plateau and has a mostly pleasant climate except during the summer months. The city attracts young people from all over the country thanks to its large number of educational institutions and nine universities. No wonder it has earned the tag of being the Oxford of the East.availability of a large talent pool from its premier educational institutes- have always made it a preferred choice for industries.
   The factors favouring the city-its proximity to Mumbai,good climate and the ready  Industries like automotive parts, auto mobile manufacturing,pharma and consumer durables have a large presence. Pune has been the industrial centre for the auto mobile industry. The largest two wheeler manufacturer  in India, Bajaj Auto,have their manufacturing unit is in Pune.
   Pune today has units of global giants like General Motors, Volkswagen and Fiat. Government ventures too have a significant presence especially in the R& D area from the the country's leading chemical laboratory to armament technology. In recent years, the city has attracted a number of players from the the IT and ITES industries. The  city today has more than 200 software companies and numerous IT parks dotting its landscape. Big software companies like Infosys,Wipro, TCS, Cognizant, Symantec etc,have all set up businesses in Pune.
  Pune has also become a hotspot for BPO industry. Companies like Converges WNS,EXL and MphassI have set up business units and created job opportunities Besides,the city has major players in financial services,legal services and infrastructure-management services which has created a different set of job.opportunities. According to a Morgan Stanley report on how India's cities cope with problems like infrastructure and job creation,Pune came in at the eighth place.
   The ranking was based on a City Vibrancy Indux(CVD),where the criteria for ranking included factors like infrastructure,job opportunities,modern consumer services and a city's ability to mobilise savings which according to Morgan Stamley are the key drivers of urbanisation. The city's rapid growth post the 1991 growth boom has placed it among the top Tier 2 and Tier 3 cities, the growth drivers of the country. Besides, Pune ranks second in terms of per capita income in the state, second only to Mumbai according to the Economic Survey of Maharashtra. Its GDP continues to grow at the rate of eight percent.
   This has also led to the development of service sectors from baking to insurance. All this development has created many employment opportunities, with the IT sector alone accounting for more than a quarter of the jobs available in the city. Growth is reflected in the changing skyline of the city with many high-rise apartments replacing the old style bungalows. The changing skyline and the real estate boom indicate the city's willingness to adapt to the new industries and workforce and ability to cater to their needs.
   This has made the city an exciting option for young people to seek a career. Many industries have chosen to establishes base here given the factors like the salubrious weather, availabilty of trained manpower and cordial labour and civic relations.
  The readily available manpower with diversified skills is the cutting edge. Government programme to introduce the latest technological developments has also sparked the interest of varied entrepreneurs to set up business here. The increase in employment levels has raised the levels of disposable incomes among the consumers in the city and consequently the standard of living. This is reflected in the increases of high end stores,malls,multiplexes and restaurants in the city. Pune has an image of youth and exuberance.It has vibrant culture and attracts young people from all over including foreign countries for its educational facilities and also the  career opportunities it offers. The city has accepted outsiders with open arms owing to its cosmopolitan outlook and cultural acceptance. The youthful outlook of the city despite having centuries old history makes it intriguing. A growing metro,the city has a peaceful environment and women here enjoy a sense of security and are able to move around safely even late at night, a fact not many Indian cities can boast of. The local language,Marathi is necessary to communicate with locals who are not vry comfortable speaking Hindi..Pune is poised to become one of the top metros in India owing to its rapidly growing economy.It is fast becoming the choice destination for those seeking to make career.
