CRIMINAL TENDENCY AMONG THE POLICE PERSONAL INCREASING
Kerala High Court has observed that criminal tendency among the Police personnel was increasing day by day. Justice S Sirijagan made the observation when a petition alleging that recruitment was denied after undergoing training for police constable came up before him.
Petitioner M Sreekumar of Nileshwaram was not appointed as criminal cases were pending against him. Referring the petition to a division bench, the judge said during a recent selection of police constables, it was found that more than 100 persons were accused in criminal cases.

If a person, who is accused in criminal case, is appointed as policeman, people are likely to suffer because of the power they wield, the judge said while referring to the recent arrest of a Deputy SP, who allegedly engaged anti- socials to assault a journalist. "The question whether person selected to police department can be given appointment notwithstanding criminal cases pending against them requires reconsideration of the division bench," the judge said.
"A new look is required into the legal position because of the present situation prevailing among police personnel in the state," the judge said.
