TRIBUTE PAID TO DR P.K.R WARRIER

    Renowned Cardio-thoracic surgeon, social activist and author Dr P.K.R Warrier died at Thiruvananthapuram on Saturday,26th March,2011. He was 90. Dr Warrier was a medical professional with firm political convictions, an epitome of selfless service and a role model for socially committed medical practice. The first head of the department of Cardio-thoracic surgery at the Thiruvananthapuram Medical college, he had endeared himself to thousands, particularly the poor, during his professional career and many more as a professional who upheld human values above every thing else.
     Born on August 13,1921, Dr Warrier imbibed his value system from the freedom struggle in which a student at the Madras medical college during the early 1940s. He  was an intimate associate of the Late Marxist ideologue EMS Namboodiripad. Dr Warrier moved to London and attained his fellowship of the Royal College of Surgeons (FRCS) in 1960. On returning to India,he joined as an assistant professor in the Department of surgery of the Thriuvananthapuram Medical College.
      Even after retirement from government service,he continued to work, first as professor of surgery at Kasturba Medical college,Manipal,. In 1990, Warrier retired from all professional work. His autobiography"Experience and Perceptions" won the Kerala Sahithya Akademi Award (2010)
     The Kottarakara based Gandhiya Navashakthi Sangom arranged a condolence meeting at Kurakar Town Centre on 27th March,2011. Prof. John Kurakar, president,Kerala Kavya Kala Sahithy, preside over the condolence meeting. Prof Kurakar said that" the demise of Dr P.K.R Warrier was a heavy loss to the public life of   Kerala. Mr Sam Kurakar, Director,Comrade Info Systems,,Mr John Panicker,Manager,United publishers, Dr Balakrishan Nair, Mr Bobby Kurakar, Managing director, Kurakar Plazha & Publishing house, Prof. Varghese John, Tresurer, United publishers,, Dr K. Muraleedharan and Mr Manu Kurakar were spoke on the condolence meeting
