OMALLOOR FARM FAIR-2011

    Omallor Vayal Vanibhom, a popular annual farm fair in central Travancore began at Omalloor on Tuesday 15th  March,2011. The month-long agriculture fair is being organised by Omalloor Grama Panchayat at the Panchayat grounds.
   The Farm Fair had a history of several decades. In olden days,Omalloor Vayal Vanibhom was a major annual attraction to the farming community in central Travancore.People from the neighbouring districts as well as bordering villages in Tamil Nadu used to visit this small villages for purchasing from produces. Farmers used to exchange agriculture produce and cattle at the fair through the barter system prevailed in those days.  Seminars and cultural programmes have been organised as part of the fair, besides exhibition-cum-sale of various agriculture producers and cattle. Philipose Mar Chrysostum ,Senior Metropolitan of the Marthoma church inaugurated the cultural meeting.
