VALLARPADAM TERMINAL

   Prime Minister Dr Manmohan singh will inaugurate the Vallampadam project on February 11th,2011 on Vallarpadam Island at 10am. The project would finally become a reality with the inauguration.
    India's export-import business now depended on Colombo, Salalah and Singapore for container transhipment, and paid nearly $ 900 million last year in transhipment charges alone for the Colombo port. The Vallarpadam terminal would save more than this amount and about 10 days' transit time for a shipment headed for mainland Europe and united states as far as Indian exim business was concerned.
