Major General Chacko Tharakan, Indian Army's chief of administration hasbeen awarded the Vishisht Seva Medal for distinguished service. A native of Kundara, near Kottarakara,Kollam, he is an alumnus of the Sainik School Kazhakuttam, and is presently based at pune.
A master of Technology from IIT, Delhi, he has also done his masters in Philosophy and science from Madras University.He had participated in military operations in Sri Lanka,North-East in Jammu and Kashmir. He had also served as deputy military secretary at the Army Head quarters.
