SRI KRISHNA COMMITTEE & TELANGANA
The Srikrishna Committee has favoured maintain the status quo of a united Andhra Pradesh and described the demand for a Telangana state as the' second best option' the report was submitted to union Home Minister Mr P Chidambaram on December 30,2010.
1- The 461 page report lists six options:
2 Bifurcation of the state in to Seemandhara and Telangana, with Hyderabad as a union Territory
3- Bifurcation of the state in to Rayala-Telangena and Coastal Andhra regions, with Hyderabad being an integral part of Rayala Telangana.
4 - Bifurcation of Andhra Pradesh in to Seemandhra and Telangana with an enlarged Hyderabad metropolis as a separate union Territory
5- Bifurcation of the state in to Telegana and Seemandhara as per the existing boundaries, with Hyderabad as the capital of Telangana and Seemandhara having a new capital
6- Keeping the state united by simultaneously providing certain definite constitutional/ statutory measures for socio-economic development of the Telangana region- creation of statutorily empowered Telegana Regional council.
The five member committee headed by the former supreme court judge B.N Sri Krishna was appointed on February 3,2010. It examined in detail the issues pertaining to the demand for a separate Telegana as well as demand for a united state.
