VELU THAMPI'S SWORD

The sword of Velu Thampi Dalawa, Prime Minister (dalawa) of the erstwhile princely state of Travancore, will be brought to Mannady, near Adoor on Thursaday 8th December,2010.
Velu Thampi had ended his life at Mannady after putting up a stiff rebellion against the East India Company's Supremacy in India. The sword was brought to Kerala from the National Museum in New Delhi in June. The sword had been kept at the Napier Museum in Thiruvananthapuram since then.
The state cultural affairs Department has decided to keep the sword at the memorial built for Velu Thampi at Mannady. The sword will be taken to Mannay in a ceremonial procession. The sword will be kept for public display at the museum attached to the memorial from 8 am to 12 noon on Friday. Velu Thampi was the dalawa of Travancore from 1802 to 1809 during the reign of King Balarama varma.
