The district of Alappuzha will be declared as the fourth totally electrified district in the state on January 26,2010. Electricity Minister Mr Balan said 7,330 houses spread over the constituencies of Chengannur, Kuttanad, Ambalapuzha, Aroor, Cherthala,,Mararikulam,,Kayamkulam and Mavelikara remained to be given power connections.
The cost of ensuring electricity to the remaining houses would require Rs 5.78 crore, out of which Rs 1 crore for each constituency would be given by the Kerala State Electricity Board (KSEB) with rest to be mopped up from MLA funds,M.P funds, The Alappuzha town was the second town in the state to be declared totally electrified on march 15,2008
