A rousing public reception was given to Jnanpith award winner ONV Kurup at his native place Chavara on Friday 19th November, 2010. Hundreds of people from all walks of life joined a cultural procession. Prof Sukumar Azhikodu, social critic inaugurated the function. He said that Prof Kurup’s poems had scaled new heights of beauty. The poems had become unforgettable verses in the minds of the people. The Chavara people’s gift of a gold pen was presented to ONV Kurup by Minister N.K Premachandran. Reception Committee convener welcomed the gatherings and general convener proposed a vote of thanks
