16TH ASIAN GAMES- 2010

16TH ASIAN GAMES- 2010

The 16th Asian Games kicked off in style at Guangshou, China with Pearl River on Friday 12 th November,2010. This was the first occasion that an Asian Games inaugural gala was held out side a stadium. The Games will feature over 9000 athletes from 45 countries competing across 42 events.

China painted a memorable canvas on the sky , as lithe girls danced on water and strong men jumped around high in the air, in front of four huge sail-boat screens that towered above the arena to mark the opening ceremony of the Asian Games.

The city was lit up beautifully – the Anton tower stood majestically on one side and the sky scrapers with colorful lighting formations provided a brilliant backdrop.

The President of the Olympic Council of Asia said” we are proud of the opening ceremony” with 45 floats, depicting 45 Asian countries and regions in a fabulous spectacle on the river. Another high point was when 180 performers presented a four dimensional show on the huge sail-shaped screens, with 1320 operators on the ground moving them in to various patters by pulling the strings.

The Chinese premier, Wen Jiabao, declared the Games open.
