The Asia-pacific forest inasive species network (APFISN) of the food and Agriculture organization based at the Kerala Forest Research Institute has asked the public to report Giant African Snail infestation.
The public may pass on information about the infestation to 0487-2690390. The information will help manage the alien invasive species. The African snails have been seen in a few parts of the state. It is now invading new locals. A native of East Africa, the Giant African Snail can feed on about 500 crops and cause health hazard to human beings by acting as a vector.
