SAINA NEHWAL-INDIAN BADMINTON PLAYER
Saina Nehwal, Indian badminton player, ranked number 2 in the world Badminton World Federation. She has broken many records. She became the first Indian women to reach the singles- quarter finals at the Olympics. She went to win the world Junior Badminton Champion ships. Finally came the hat trick win by clinching the Indonesian open in 2009, the Singapore open title in June 2010. 1998, a little girl participated in a summer camp at the Fatch maiden indoor stadium, Hyderabad. That proved to be the turning point of her life.
Early in life her inclination was to be an engineer or Doctor. But slowly her immense sporting talent saw academics take the back seat. 1998, when the eight year old Saina walked in to the badminton court in Hyderabad. Saina’s mother Usha Rani was a former Haryana State champion and her father scientist Dr Harvir singh, a former university champion. England Badmintons champion pullela Gopi chand who took up the responsibility when she was ranked 198 in the world. By all means Gopi gave a new dimension to the career of the gifted youngster.
