KARUNAKRA GURU
Karunakara Guru was the founder of the Santhigiri Ashram. Indian President Smt Pratibha Patil said a critical aspect of Karunakara Guru’s teaching was to address the concerns of the less privileged and disadvantageous sections so as to build a society that was more equitable and sustainable. Guru focused on meeting the basic needs of food and good health essential for human survival, which, coupled with awareness of human values, imparted a purpose and meaning to life, The Guru’s view that the family was the basic nit of society, nurturing the individual, carried great wisdom. The president inaugurated the Parnasala of Karunakara Guru on Friday 13th August, 2010.
The president said ‘The Parnasala,a lotus shaped 91- foot- high monument made of white marble, was a fitting tribute to Karunakara Guru and it symbolized the message of universal peace.
The president referring to Karunakara Guru’s close association with nature and his emphasis on keeping the environment clean and pure. The president said each individual could contribute towards reducing the impact of global warming through optional use of earth’s resources.
