AMARNATH YATRA-2010
The annual pilgrimage to the Amarnath cave began on July 1st.Kashmiri’s head priest and Hurriyat Conference Chairman Mirweriz Umar Farooq has welcomed the yatra.
Authorities made elaborate arrangements for their safe journey” We had a smooth trip and we are happy to be here” a yatri from Mumbai said. Most yatris were satisfied with the arragements and local hospitality.So far 1.5 lakh pilgrims have registered and it is expected that the number wil cross the half million mark this year.
Kasmiri Muslims considered the yatris as their’ esteemed guests. Kashmiris consider religious tolerance and communal harmony as their foremost assets. This was made clear when Kashmiris collected rice and other food items in their localities to feed stranded yatris and protected them at a time when fanatic and communal groups imposed an economic blockade on Kashmir in 2008”
The Kashmiri union asked yatris to come and experience Kashmiri hospitality and on return be the brand ambassadors of the state and its people.
