BUS FELL IN TO MEENACHIL RIVER

At least ten persons, including three women, a nine-year old girl and a rescue worker, were killed when a private bus coming to Kottayam from Cherthala lost control, hit an 11 K.V electric post and fell in to the Meenachil river at Thazhathangadi on the kumarakom Kottayam route on Tuesday 23th March 2010.
According to eyewitnesses, the bus had apparently hit the electric sparks twice, before the bus fell in to the river at 2.20 pm.
Governor expressed deep condolences of the loss of lives in the Bus accident at Thazathangadi in Kottayam. The chief minister expressed his deep sorrow over the death of many persons in a bust accident.
The government has ordered a probe by transport Commissioner in to the Bus accident. The Cabinet decided to provide a solatium of Rs 3 lakh to the next kin of each of the dead in the bus accident and 5 lakh to the family of Satheesan who collapsed and died while carrying our rescue work. The cabinet also decided to provide Rs 1 lakh each to Kabeer and Soorya who were injured during the rescue efforts. Leader of the opposition said that heart rending scenes were witnessed at the accident spot and hospitals.
