14 PERSONS CONVICTED
IN MARAD MURDER CASE

Murder was committed in January 2002. The special Additional District Sessions Court ( Marad Cases) on Wednesday 17th March, 2010 convicted 14 accused in the killing of Thekkethodi Aboobacker, 54 in the Marad Coastal Village during the communal riots in January, 2002.
The court found all the accused guilty under section 143 ( rioting)148( rioting, armed with Weapons) 326( voluntarily causing grievous hurt by dangerous weapons) and 153-A ( promoting enmity between different groups on grounds of religion, race, place of birth, residence, language and doing acts prejudicial to maintenance of harmony) of the Indian penal code (IPC)
The court examined 22 witnesses, 12 material objects and 37 documents in the case. Five persons were killed, Several persons injured and property worth crores of rupees destroyed during the riots on two days.
