REPUBLIC DAY AWARDS-2010

The former Reserve Bank of India Governor, Y.V Reddy, Nobel Laureate Ventaraman Ramakrishnan, founder of Appllo Hospital group Prathap C. Reddy, Theatre director Ebrahim Alkazi, Theatre actor Zohra segal and percussionist and Mrudangam vidwan Umayalpuram K. Sivaraman have been honoured with padma vibhusan, country's highest civilian award, on the occasion of the 61st Republic day.
Music composers A.R Rahman and Iiaiyaraaja, actor Aamerkhan, danseuse Mallika Sarabhai, tabla exponent pandit chhannulal mishra, planning commission member B.K Chaturvedi DLF chairman Kushal pal singh, Cardiac surgeon Ramakant Madanmohan panda and news week columnist Fareed Zakaria are among the 43 persons chosen for Padma Bhushen.
Other Padma Bhushan awardees include historian Bipan chandra planning Commission member Abhijit Sen, Leela Hotel group chairman C.P Krishnan Nair.
The padma Shri award has gone 81 persons. The Padma awardees include 17 women. The awards are given in disciplines such as Art, Social work, Public affairs, Science and Engineering, Trade and industry, Medicine, Literature and Education, Sports and Civil service.
