REDUCE ROAD ACCIDENT

The chief minister has called for concerted efforts by motorists and road users to reduce road accidents. Rate of road accident by 5.25 percent in 2009.
the chief minister said despite the campaign and enforcement by the law enforcing agencies, 100 road accidents and 10 deaths were taking place on an verage daily in the sate.
The biggest challenge before the state at present was how to reduce the road accidents. The chief minister said 3,310 persons were killed in road accidents in the state till November last,2009 compared to 3901 in 2008, the number of deaths in road accidents was 2710. One fifth of the accident death were caused by tipper lorries. One fourth of the victims were those traveling in two wheelers.. Lack of timely medical assistance to the injured was also resulting in more fatalities. Although the number of ration cards in the state was just 70 lakh, the number of vehicles registered had gone up to 50 lakh. The increase in the number of vehicles also increased the chances of road accident.
The chief minister called for tough driving Licence tests, stern action against over speeding and scientific method of identify drunk driving. The director General of Police said lack of road culture was a major problem. Two of the 10 deaths taking place in the state daily were involving two wheelers. 960 two wheeler riders killed in road accident in 2009
