MAHARASHTRA CABINET
SWORN IN-2009
Ashok Chavan was sworn in as the 25th chief Minister of Maharashtra on Saturday 7th November, 2009. Chhagan Bhujbal took the oath of office and secrecy as deputy chief Minister. The newly formed council has 38 ministers. 18 from the congress and the 20 from NCP ( Nationalist Congress Party) they are 27 cabinet Ministers and 11 Minister of state.
Speaking to the Media after the oath-taking ceremony Mr Chavan thanked the people of Maharastra for giving him the opportunity becoming the chief Minister in the states Golden Jubilee year. The Formation of the state is May I 1960.
Chief Minister Ashok Chavan again said that the new government would endeavour to make Maharashtra a 'global state' with Mumbai as our focus”
the Cabinet would work towards a time-bound implementation of the joint manifesto of the congress and the Nationalist Congress party. The chief minister raised several concerns his new government would have to address price rise, acute shortage of water, power crisis and unemployment would be among the immediate issues to address.
Mr Chavan also stressed on improving law and order in the context of Mumbai terror attacks last November 2008. Several steps have been taken to boost the strength of the police force and its capabilities.
