ANAND JON ALEXANDER SENTENCED TO 59 YEAR IMPRISONMENT
The fashion designer Anand Jon Alexander was sentenced on Monday 31st August 2009 to 59 years to life in prison for sexually assaulting aspiring models he lured to Los Angels. 35 year Alexander was convicted in November of 14 counts, including forcible rape.
The lengthy jail term awarded to kerala-born designer Anand Jon Alexander by the Los Angels superior count has left most malayalis in the U.S disturbed.
It is the first time in recent times that a malayali has been awarded such a tough punishment and for such a horrible crime. Anand’s mother Shashi Abraham alleged that the jury and the investigators were biased. His sister Sanjana told that Anand was a victim of racial discrimination.
Shashi Abraham, who was born in Thiruvananthapuram, lived in Kochi for several years with her two children. She opened a highprofile beauty parlor in Kochi Anand studied at a school in Kochi. He went to the U.S to study fashion and graduated from the parson, a fashion Institute in the late 1990s. He launched the Anand Jon fashion line in 1999. His mother and sister on and they all lived in an apartment in Beverly Hills.
