The author said ,the book in a way chronicled the political history of independent India. He embossed Mr. Laxman’s perseverance with his art and his ability to lampoon the political establishment of the day
The book is divided in to five parts, comprising a biographical sketch, a section on Laxman the artist, his caricature, the element of humour and political cartons.
Mr. Laxman is the greatest cartoonist in India. He was a people’s representative who raised their issues forcefully in the corridors of power. The Governor said “ for the first time, the Durbar Hall is seeing the felicitation of a unique person, the creator of the common man” The Governor again said “ cartooning is a powerful wheel of journalism. A Cartoonist is the torchbearer of freedom of expression”
Mr. Laxman portrayed the ups and downs in the life of the Common man. His way of portraying issues was not hand-hitting as that of the editors, he did it I a humorous way. He is the most well-informed person; it is difficult to imagine the Times of India with out his cartons. The election slogan of ‘aam adami’ had also sought inspiration from Mr. Lax man’s creation.
