TRIBUTE TO LOHITADAS, DIRECTOR AND SCREENPLAY WRITER
A.K Logitadas, 54 ,screenplay writer and director, died in hospital on Sunday 28th June 2009 following a massive heart attack. He is survived by his wife Sindhu and sons Harikrishnan and Vijayasankar. Logitadas had a cardiac illness for six months. Now and doctors had advised bypass surgery. Logitadas started unsuccessfully as short story writer but he soon made his mark as a playwright. He made his foray in to the world celluloid by scripting the award winning screen play for Thaniyavarthnam directed by sibi Malayil. Sibi-Logi duo turned out to be among the most successful combination in Malayalam cinema churning out a series of popular yet critically acclaimed movies such as Ezhuthapurangal, Kireedom, Mudra, His Highness Abdullah, Bharatham and Kamaladalam. Sibi-Logi relationship lasted 22 year. Sibi Malayil told that” our closeness developed in to a strong friendship. We spent a lot of time together and kept each others personal secrets”
His screen plays for Aardhram, Padheyam, Amaram, Venkalam, Kanmadham and Karunyam were significant for their flawless characterization and inimitable styles of narration.
Logitadas will be cremated with state honours on the premised of his house Amaravathy, an old mana at Akaloor village on the bank of Nila. The house was the background of his film Arayannangalude veedu. Logitadas was an active presence in the cultural and film field in palakkad. His 44 screenplays and 12 directorial ventures had been a consistent observation of life in all its vibrancy. His Thaniyavarthanam, Kireedom, Aardhram, Bhratham, Amaram, Bhoothakannadi, all screenplays had facets that reflected the angst ecstasy of life.
Thaniyavarthanm was a reminder of how thin the dividing line between sanity and insanity
Kireedom was a manifestation of the unpredictability of humane nature and paternal affection
Aadharam reminded the virtues and strength of secularism and troubled times. It was a strong warning against those whipping up communal sentiments for petty gains
Bharatham and Amaram presented the intensity of brotherly and paternal affection. He succeeded in illustrating with élan the charm of maternal love and the strong family ties which held society intact
Nivedyam was the last film he directed
The Chief Minister and other political leaders have expressed grief over the demise of film director and scenarist Logitadas.
Mr Lohita das was an extremely talented artist who made invaluable contribution to Malayalam movies as a story writer, script writer and film director. His subtle depiction of human situations and unflinching social commitment has won for him a permanent place in the hearts of the people.
