VALIYA PADAYANI-2009
The Valiya padayani of the Kadammanitta Bhagavathy Temple will be held on the temple premises on Tuesday 21 th April 2009. The festival will begin with a ceremonial procession of Bhairavi Kolams with the accompaniment of indigenous torch lights made of dry coconut leaves and Thappu,the unique padayani percussion. The event begins immediately after the’athazhapuja.
The rhythmic signing of padayani songs will be another attraction of the customary procession padayani kolams. Different kinds of kolems like Ganapathi, Bhairavi, Yakshi, Kuthira, Pakshi, Madan, Kalan, and Marutha will form the procession.
The Bhairavi Kolam performance to be held on the temple premises will be the main attraction of Valiya Padayani. The Kolam danced in tune with padayani songs.Audience participation during the performance is a speciality of this temple act theatre form. The Legend has it that Goddess Kali, after slaying the demon Darika, went back of mount Kailas to meet Lord Siva in her fiercest form. On the advicee of Lord Subrahmaniya, Lord Siva send various Kolams to greet Goddess Kali in order to pacift her. myth says that Kali laughed at the very sight of the Bhairavi Kolam. The Festival will come to a close with Pakal Padayani to be held from 9.30 am to 11 am on 22nd april 2009.
