The Kolkata based catholic order founded by the charismatic Mother Teresa, a winner of the Nobel prize for peace has been famously involved in carring for the suffering poor
Sister prema, a teacher who became associated with the order some 29 years ago and was elected to the post on march 24 ,2009. On her predecessor, sister Nirmala Joshi who stepped down di\ue to failing health although she was re- elected for a third term. Sister Prema said “ Sister Nirmala is a great inspiration for all of us. She is a big sister to guide and consel us always.
Sister Prema born as Mechtilde Pierick in Germany’s West falia region in 1953, sister Prema’s parents were farmers” I was influenced by Mothers principles and met her first in 1980 at a school in Germany where I taught. I made up my mind to join the congregation the same year”
In 1997, she was a member of the General Chapter in whch sister Nirmala was elected Mother Teresa’s successor. She returned to Kolkata in September 1997 for Mother Teresa’s funeral
Sister Prema is since 2001 She has served in the Mother house working closely with sister Nirmala as one of the four general councilors
