It was unfortunate that the Union Government did not declare Malayalam as a classical Language.Malayalam had a rich Literary tradition. The Language should receive the same status and consideration as Tamil, Kannda and Telugu . What was the yard stick used when kannada and Telugu were given the classical status and Malayalam was not? Malayalam is an ancient and alive dravidian language. It has a history that dates back to the 16th century. Thousands of eminent writers and poets are in kerala. The Union Government must declred Malayalam as classical Language.
