 Japan tsunami’s impact on Indian Ocean

       Indian scientists will study the impact on the Indian Ocean of the Pacific Ocean tsunami that ravaged north-eastern Japan earlier this month, a met department official said Wednesday,23^rd March,2011 "The Pacific Ocean is so vast that if there are some changes in the sea following the recent tsunami, it will have a global impact. We will study the impact of the Pacific Ocean tsunami on the Indian Ocean," said India Meteorological Department (IMD) Director General Ajit Tyagi on the sidelines of a function.

       Scientists are awaiting data related to changes in the pattern of the Pacific Ocean. "We need to study changes in sea currents, bottom of the sea and ocean conditions, and how it can impact the Indian Ocean," Tyagi told.  The devastating earthquake and tsunami that struck Japan March 11 left 9,301 people dead, while at least 13,786 are still unaccounted for.

    Major fire at Joy Alukkas Wedding Centre in Kochi. More than a dozen fire tenders were pressed in to service to put out a fire that broke out on the ground floor of Joy Alukkas Wedding Centre on the Marine Drive in the early hours of Sunday 27th March, 2011.
   No one was injured in the fire that was suspected to have been triggered by a short circuit on the ground floor. Properties worth crores of rupees have been damaged in a major fire outbreak in Alukkas showroom, one of the prominent golden Jewellery show room in the city at Marine Drive Sunday 27th March. The fire was noticed by local residents at midnight and informed the police. The fire is said to have spread to all the four floors of the showroom. The fire is believed to have caused substantial damage to textile item in the eight-floor show room.
    Traffic at the northern end of shanmugham Road and western end of Banerjee Road was restricted by the police on Sunday to make easy the fire-fighting operations.
   The accident is unlikely to affect the plans of Joy Alukkas India Limited to go in for a public issue of equity shares, subject to market conditions, said a spokesman for company.

   A Hyderabad- based company working on learning technologies, unveiled Edutor Advantage, a first of its kind hand held interactive learning device, for students from std III to X. the touch screen device comes with preloaded class specific curriculum- aligned content that is easy for students to understand.
    Equipped with audio, video and animated content, the device offers course material in social studies, mathematics, science and English, cricket, yoga and karate, spoken English content and Wikipedia on the extra -curriculum activities front.
    Students could opt for self assessment with inbuilt pratice tests and questions so that they could take corrective action. Edutor advantage, according to its developers, is tailor-made to suit students, requirements and will not allow distraction as it does not require any Internet connectivity. The instrument has been designed in such a way material except the custom- built solution developed by the company.
  The handheld instrument is priced ar Rs 5,845, and the content will cost another Rs 1,635. The company will update the content every year in line with the changes in the education curriculum and students can upgrade the content as they enter higher classes. The company is planning to release a similar solution for the Indian certificate of secondary education(ICSE), the International General Certificate of secondary Education (IGCSE) and the SSC in the coming months.
