REKSHA BANDHAN-2026

REKSHA BANDHAN-2026

Raksha Bandhan is one of the most auspicious festivals that celebrates the unique relationship between brothers and sisters. It falls on a full moon day, or Purnima Tithi, that occurs in the month of Shravana. In 2026, Raksha Bandhan will be celebrated on a Friday, August 28. On this day, sisters all across India will tie the sacred Rakhi thread on their brothers’ wrists and pray for their welfare.

While Raksha Bandhan is indeed all about the exchange of gifts, the timing of the ritual is also considered to be of great significance. According to the Hindu Panchang, tying the Rakhi should be done during an auspicious time and must be avoided during Bhadra Kaal. In order to determine an auspicious time to tie the Rakhi, it is important to consult the Panchang.

Raksha Bandhan 2026 will be celebrated on August 28. According to Drik Panchang calculations, Shravana Purnima Tithi will begin at around 9:08 AM on August 27 and will end at 9:48 AM on the following day, August 28. Hence since the auspicious time to perform the Rakhi ceremony lies on August 28 (after Bhadra), Raksha Bandhan will be celebrated on a Friday. This is also the reason why Raksha Bandhan 2026 will be celebrated on August 28 even though the Purnima Tithi commenced on August 27. The Rakhi ceremony must be performed only after Bhadra Kaal has ended, as per the Panchang.
