26TH STATE CONFERENCE
OF THE KERALA ELECTRICAL WIRE MAN AND SUPERVISORS ASSOCIATION

The 26th State conference of the Kerala Electrical Wiremen and
Supervisors Association (KEWSA), held here on Monday, demanded measures to
exclude unauthorised wiremen and supervisors from the construction sector,
streamlining of their service and wage terms and conditions, insurance
coverage, and bringing their work under the purview of the Labour Department.G.S.
Jayalal, Chathannur MLA who inaugurated the conference, said the demands were
justified and pertained to social issues. He said coverage under social
security schemes was essential for all sections in order to ensure overall
development.
Mr. Jayalal, however, noted that the concept of service in many
sectors was giving way to commercial interests and a section of wiremen and
supervisors was also involved in such activities. The former Minister N.K.
Premachandran delivered the keynote address.KWESA State president V.S. Sajeev
presided.General secretary P. Thampan welcomed the gathering. The delegates
session was inaugurated by Mayor Prasanna Earnest.
